BIO Nick Styles (Hillbilly Pop) Singer Songwriter, Country Victoria, Australia. “The revelation was Styles with his well constructed songs and turns of phrase; this country boy deserves big city success.” Music writer Nui Te Koha. Born and Raised in Country Victoria, the son of a musician he was influenced early on by his father who played country and rock & roll for a living. Given a guitar as a child and sitting in on rehearsal with father’s band was his first introduction to playing music. From a young age it was law in the house to play every day on the family’s piano, something he enjoyed only after learning to improvise on 1920’s rag and jazz tunes. Listening to various records as a kid, 50’s 60’s 70’s rock & roll, American country, jazz and old time blues, singer songwriters and the radio is where influences developed. Not picking up the guitar again until age 19 while working on a farm in N SW, Nick started writing songs and playing shows. Returning to Melbourne in 2002 played venues around the northern suburbs and has continued to play venues throughout the city, venues and festivals in country Victoria and interstate, solo and with band. Recordings include various home studio recording’s, live recordings, studio recorded self titled EP (Dec 04) and debut album recorded in Melbourne Dec 08 (not yet released.) ! |
